Saganaki” A Greek appetizer, basically means fried cheese. Crunchy on the outside, melted, warm cheese on the inside it is a perfect to start any meal. The standard cheese used in Greece is the kefalotyri. In our Indian kitchens, the same can be substituted with mozzarella, Gouda, or Cheddar.

Easy to make this fried cheese has to be served hot just off the pan. With a slice of lemon. Paired with a simple salad it makes a wholesome meal.

Saganaki Recipe:

Ingredients for Saganaki Recipe:

  • Cheese.. 1 big block or small cube depending upon the availability
  • Maida 1/2 cup
  • Olive oil for pan-frying

Preparation Method:

  • Take the cheese block and dust liberally with maida.
  • Using your palms smoothen the surface of the cheese gently.
  • A shake of the excess maida.
  • Heat a pan. Add enough oil for pan-frying.
  • Once medium hot, place the cheese block and allow it to brown. Flip and fry on the other side. Once done remove and serve with a slice of lemon.
