Ingredients for Paruppu Usili Recipe

  • Tuvar dal /red gram dal 1/2 cup
  • Channa dal/Bengal gram dal 1/2cup
  • Red chilly 3-4
  • Curry leaves few
  • Asafoetida a pinch
  • Turmeric powder a pinch
  • Cluster beans/kothavarangai 1/4kg
  • Mustard seeds 1 tsp
  • Salt as required
  • Oil 2 tbsp

Preparation Method:

  • Wash the dals, add 2 cups of water and turmeric and cook till half done on open pan.
  • Wash and chop the cluster beans and parboil with a pinch of salt.
  • Drain the cooked dal and grind coarse with red chilly and curry leaves.
  • Take a heavy-bottomed pan.
  • Add oil and splutter mustard seeds. Add the asafoetida follows by the dal mixture.
  • Saute well for about 5 minutes.
  • Add the chopped vegetables.
  • Mix well and saute till the dal and vegetables combine well and become dry.
  • Add the salt and saute for another 2 minutes.
  • Remove from flame and serve.
  • Pairs best with morekuzhambu, rasam, and curd rice.
