MILAGU-JEERAGA RASAM / PEPPER-JEERA RASAM

Ingredients for Milagu Jeeraga Rasam:

  • Tamarind 1 Lemon Size
  • Tuvar Dal/Red Gram Dal 1 Tbsp
  • Pepper Corns 2 Tsp
  • Cumin Seeds /Jeera 1 Tsp
  • Red Chilly 4-6
  • Red chilly for tempering 1
  • Asafoetida 1 Tsp
  • Salt as Required
  • Curry Leaves Few
  • Ghee 1 Tsp
  • Mustard Seeds 1 Tsp
  • Cumin Seeds for Tempering 1 Tsp

Preparation Method for Milagu Jeeraga Rasam:

  • Extract the tamarind with about 600ml (3 cups) of water. Set it aside.
  • Take a heavy-bottomed pan, Add 1 tsp of ghee, roast red chilly, pepper, and Tuvar dal till dal is golden brown.
  • Grind to a smooth paste the roasted ingredients along with cumin.
  • Mix the paste with the tamarind extract. Bring this to a boil along with required salt.
  • Add half the quantity of asafoetida while boiling. Once it begins to froth on the sides lower the flame. And continue to simmer for 5 minutes. Switch off the flame and temper with mustard,1 red chilly, curry leaves, and asafoetida. Serve hot.
