Pathinettam-Perukku /Aadi Perukku colloquially known as Padinettamper is an eminent South Indian celebration in the Month of Aadi. In accordance with Tamil panchangam, Pathinettam-Perukku signifies the arrival of monsoon in Tamil Nadu state. Padinettamperukku symbolizes ‘Padinettam’ which means ‘Eighteen’or the 18th day of Aadi and Perukku indicating- ‘Rising’. Owing to the monsoons, the water level rises in the rivers during this season. Hence the month of Aadi is favourable for sowing. This day is also considered a ceremonial occasion to show respect to Goddess-Cauvery. It is also believed that Shri Goddess- Bhooma (Devi) has incarnated as the river-Cauvery.
