The special “Holi” drink… Thandai a super cooler that takes care of our body’s immune system during searing hot summers. One of the oldest drinks known to have been prepared in India, this milk-based drink is loaded with nuts and spices and is definitely lower in calories when compared to a simple vanilla milkshake.
Here is a “Holi” special watermelon thandai…. A wonderful fusion of the summer fruit with the goodness of nuts and spices. A quick to prepare a drink with fresh ingredients, this is a sure shot thirst quencher and immune booster.
The recipe was the creation of my niece Vaishnavi Ramesh and so are the photographs of this Holi special.
Ingredients for Watermelon Thandai
- Watermelon juice freshly extracted 200 ml
- Full-fat milk 200 ml
- Almonds soaked and peeled 10 pcs
- Pistachio soaked 10 pcs
- Almond & pistachios slivers 2 tbsp
- Peppercorn 10
- Fennel seeds 1/4tsp
- Roasted Cumin seed powder a pinch
- Chaat masala 1/2tsp
- Saffron a few strands
Preparation Method:
- Grind the nuts along with peppercorns and fennel seeds into a smooth paste.
- Whisk the juice, milk, and nut-spice paste till frothy.
- Pour into glasses (makes 3).
- Top with nut slivers, saffron, a pinch of Cumin powder, and chaat masala.
- Chill and serve
