Fluffy, soft, porous, yellow savoury cake…..yes your guess is right…The dhokla a Gujarati any time steamed snack has slowly become the favourite of the health-conscious. Low-calorie high protein and high fiber makes it a much sought-after quick meal solution. Low in GI it is an excellent snack to appease diabetic cravings. Instant Dhokla Recipe
Ingredients for Instant Dhokla:
- Gram Flour 1C
- Semolina 1 C
- Water ½ C
- Curd Whisked 1 C
- Turmeric powder – a pinch.
- Salt as required.
- Eno fruit salt 1 tsp
For Tempering:
- Oil 1 Tsp
- Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
- Green chilli 3 finely chopped.
- Asafoetida ½ tsp
- Sugar – 1 tsp
- Salt – 1/4 tsp
- Coriander leaves finely chopped 1 tbsp.
- Water ¼ C
Preparation Method for Instant Dhokla:
- Take a large bowl. Add all ingredients except for Eno Fruit Salt. Whisk well and check for dropping consistency. Cover and set aside till preparations for steaming is done.
- Grease the steaming plate.
- Mix in the Eno fruit salt into the beaten mixture and immediately pour into the plate. Place the plate on the stand, cover, and steam for 20 minutes or till done. A toothpick inserted should come out clean.
- Remove the plate. Cut the steamed dhoklas into squares and do not remove from the plate.
- Prepare the tempering-Take a tempering pan, add oil, when hot add mustard seeds and green chilly. When mustard splutters turn to low flame, add asafoetida. Add water carefully. Follow with salt and sugar and switch off flame. Mix well and pour over the dhoklas. Sprinkle coriander and serve with mint chutney.
Delicious Gujarati “Instant Dhokla” is ready 🙂
